An 18-time World Golf Championships winner, Woods last lifted the Gary Player Cup in 2013, when he shot his second-career 61 on the South Couse in the second round. He went on win by a commanding seven-stroke margin over Keegan Bradley and Henrik Stenson for his fifth win of the PGA TOUR season. Woods has not won on the PGA TOUR since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Six of Woods’ eight victories at Firestone came prior to 2008, including the first three in the event’s history from 1999-2001. Woods has delivered some of the most memorable shots in Firestone Country Club’s storied history, including his famed shot in the dark on 18th hole in 2000 en route to an 11-stroke victory.
Following a T11 at THE PLAYERS Championship, Woods verbalized his goal of qualifying for the 2018 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational: “One of my goals is to get into Akron one last time before we leave there. I’ve won there eight times and I’d love to get there with one more chance. Hopefully I can put together one good event.”
Through 12 events this season, Woods has finished in the top 10 four times, including a season-best T2 at the Valspar Championship. His T6 at Carnoustie Golf Links was his second-consecutive top-10 finish following a T4 at the Quicken Loans National.
This will be Woods’ first start in a World Golf Championships event this season.
As a reminder, all youth 18 years and younger are admitted free to the tournament with a ticketed adult.
