Monchi and Paratici top Man United sporting director targets

As per a report from the Independent, Premier League giants Manchester United have placed Monchi of AS Roma and Juventus’ Fabio Paratici atop their list of targets to become the club’s new director of football.

Man United’s missed targets

The saga surrounding United’s struggles on the transfer market this summer was one of the talking points of the European transfer window, with United having reportedly tried and failed to sign a number of high-profile targets, including Alex Sandro, Diego Godin, Toby Alderweireld and more.

As such, there has been an inevitable inquest into the club’s failings to attract Jose Mourinho’s first-choice signings by both the media and fans alike since the close of the transfer window last Thursday, with the pulling power of the Red Devils and the negotiation talents of the club’s higher-ups called into question.

Help incoming for Ed Woodward and co.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is the man largely tasked with negotiating and securing signings for the Old Trafford outfit as things stand, but, as per the aforementioned report from the Independent this evening, the Red Devils’ board have begun their search for a director of football to be added to the club’s hierarchy.

United do not currently have a director of football on their books, but the Independent claim that Jose Mourinho’s previous reluctance to work under such an individual has changed of late, no doubt due to the lack of additions to his squad this summer.

As such, the report states that AS Roma’s Monchi and Fabio Paratici of Juventus are the top two candidates in the eyes of the board at Old Trafford, though former Red Devils’ goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar is also being taken into consideration.

The Independent go on to suggest that securing a deal for either Monchi or Paratici would prove an extremely tough task, though, with the former having only been recently been appointed at Roma following a superb stint with Sevilla, and Paratici viewed as an integral part of the recent successes of Juventus.

Nevertheless, the simple decision to pursue a member of staff who can so often prove the difference between a transfer actually coming to fruition or not could prove a historic step in the right direction for Manchester United.
