Daniel Murphy will bat leadoff in his Cubs’ debut Wednesday night against the Tigers at Comerica Park.
Murphy, acquired Tuesday from the Nationals after being claimed on waivers, will start at second base. Murphy, 32, has made 12 career starts at the leadoff spot, batting .245 with a .309 on-base percentage.
Addison Russell, who is coping with a sore right shoulder and swollen left middle finger, was put on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday.
Javier Baez will move to shortstop, and David Bote will start at third base. Ben Zobrist will handle the designated hitter duties.
Jon Lester will oppose Francisco Liriano in a matchup of left-handers.
