Hall of Fame catcher misses foul ball at Giants game with son on the mound

Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez won 13 Gold Gloves in his 21-year MLB career. The Hall of Fame catcher showed why his playing days are done with his son Dereck on the mound Friday night for the Giants.

As Dereck cruised into the sixth inning against the Rangers, a foul ball came Pudge’s way in the top half of the inning. Maybe he needed his old mitt.

Pudge whiffed on his chance at a foul ball and even more importantly, another opportunity to show off in front of Dereck. All in good fun, it certainly cracked a smile on the rookie’s face.

“In his defense, he didn’t have a glove,” Dereck told MLB.com’s Chris Haft. “So I’m going to let it slide.”

By the way, Dereck doesn’t have an error this season. Somehow, his retired father does.
