Balanced RBC ends SJV’s Shore Conference winning streak
No. 15 Red Bank Catholic scored a statement win Friday night in Holmdel.
It’s 41-14 victory ended the 38-game winning streak No. 16 St. John Vianney had against the Shore Conference. It also established RBC as the team to beat in the new Shore Conference Freedom Division and as a serious contender for the Non-Public Group 3 title now that perennial winner St. Joseph (Mont.) is in NP4.
It was St. John Vianney’s first within the Shore Conference since Nov. 27, 2013. Three of those victories came against Red Bank Catholic including 35-17 last season.
The key for RBC was balance. In the first half, RBC went to the air. Senior QB Steve Lubischer (pictured above, No. 8) completed 7 of 9 passes for 104 yards in the first half. Lubischer ran for two TDs and passes for another.
In the second half, RBC unleashed its running game. Billy Guidetti ran for 75 yards on 15 carries in the second half.
