Middlesbrough’s George Saville relishing chance to play under Tony Pulis

George Saville joined Middlesbrough on loan from Millwall in August with a deal in place for Boro to buy the midfielder permanently in January of 2019.

‘He knows how to win football matches in the Championship’

Saville has yet to make his debut for Middlesbrough, but the midfielder does appear very excited to get to work under Tony Pulis.

Saville told the BBC while away on international duty with Northern Ireland,

“At this stage it’s a fantastic move for myself personally and one I’m really looking forward to.

“My very first loan move was Millwall so it’s been a move that’s been really good for me and my career, but at this stage of my career and the interest Middlesbrough showed in me, I couldn’t turn it down.

“The style of play is not like the fantastic football Manchester City will play but he is effective and he knows how to win football matches in the Championship.

“That’s what it is about – getting out of the league. Tony knows how to win football matches and that’s all I care about.”

Middlesbrough’s unbeaten start

Middlesbrough currently sit joint top of the Championship after six games played.

Boro kicked off their season with a 2-2 draw at Millwall, during which they would have to come from 2-0 down.

Pulis’s men then smashed Sheffield United 3-0 at home.

They then beat Birmingham City 1-0 in a game they could have easily scored three or four.

Boro then beat Bristol City 2-0 and came away 1-0 winners against one of the promotion favourites, West Brom.

Middlesbrough’s most recent league game saw them travel to high flying Leeds and hold out for a 0-0 draw.
