NBA icon LeBron James spent four successful years with Miami Heat between 2010 and 2014, helping them win the NBA Championship in 2012 and 2013.
The Los Angeles Lakers star is set to be the subject of a series of revelations when author Iam Thomsen releases his new book, entitled: The Soul of Basketball: The Epic Showdown between LeBron, Kobe, Doc and Dirk that saved the NBA.
Featuring in the book is former Miami Heat president Pat Riley.
And Riley has now revealed that NBA star James once demanded he take over coaching duties from Erik Spoelstra.
“[I] asked how things were progressing,” Riley recalls in the book.
“They just said, ‘We’re not feeling it, or something like that.’
“We talked about the typical things we have to do, have patience, all that stuff.
“And I remember LeBron looking at me and he said, ‘Don’t you ever get the itch?’
“And I said, ‘The itch for what?’
“He said, ‘The itch to coach again.’ I said, ‘No I don’t have the itch.
“He didn’t ask any more questions and I didn’t offer any more answers but I know what it meant and I always go back and wonder what he was thinking at that time.
“He walked out scratching at his leg like it was itching.”
LeBron James has recently signed for the Los Angeles Lakers.
And his former teammate Larry Nance Jr thinks he can get the Lakers to the finals – but it will be a tough ask.
“They could [get to the Finals],” he said.
“With LeBron, anything is possible.
“I think it’ll be a very tough road because arguably three of the best four teams are out west.
“You’re going to have to go through Golden State, Houston, Oklahoma City – there’s some really good teams out there.
“Their work is certainly cut out.”
