Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino Hugo Lloris’ injury stems from the stress of his drink-driving charge.
Spurs’ captain has been suffering from a hamstring injury since the club’s 3-0 win over Manchester United.
Pochettino claims the goalkeeper played the game “under stress” causing him to suffer the muscle injury.
Mauricio Pochettino on Hugo Lloris: “He was under stress during the game“
The 31-year-old’s hamstring injury will keep him out of Saturday’s clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.
Lloris has admitted that he hopes to return at the end of the month to face Huddersfield Town.
Regarding how he suffered the injury, Pochettino said:
“I think he was under stress during the game against Manchester United.
“I think the injury and with the added stress maybe created that injury.
“The injury now is helping him to take time and think and be a little bit more relaxed.
“To compete after what happened was a massive stress for him.”
Are Tottenham Hotspur missing Hugo Lloris?
Following Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 victory at Old Trafford, Hugo Lloris has since been absent from Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Three fixtures have passed and for the first time under Pochettino’s tenure, Spurs have lost three consecutive games.
Defeats to Watford, Liverpool and Inter Milan has left the North London club’s season teetering on the brink of entering disarray.
Michel Vorm has deputised for the World Cup winner although his performances have seen him come under fire.
Tottenham have conceded six goals in their last three with five of the goal coming from set pieces.
Mentally the players look affected and results show that Lloris absence has been felt by Spurs’ squad.
