AREA ROUNDUP: Lady Bulldogs tennis blanks Kankakee

STREATOR — The Streator Lady Bulldog netters blanked the Kankakee Lady Kays 5-0 on Monday afternoon at the SHS courts.

Posting singles wins for Streator were Yaminia Deleon at No. 1 (7-5, 6-3 over Celeste Anrade) and Lyndsey Arevalo at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2 over Tatum Hall). Notching doubles victories were Aleaha Evans and Alyssa Heilman at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1 over Nykearra Calbert and Wendy Cerrato), Wendy Romero and Jennifer Romero at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0 over Maddie Mann and Gabby Dee), and Emilee Castillo and Lucy Zavada at No. 3 (6-4, 4-6, 10-3 over Jayla Washington and Kamise Smith).

Recording an exhibition win was Claire Vogel (6-2, 6-2 over Jannite Stegez).

Ottawa 5, Geneseo 0

At Geneseo, the Lady Pirates blanked the Maple Leafs in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division dual meet.

Posting singles wins for Ottawa were Ella Marvel at No. 1 (6-0, 6-0 over Lexee Hodge) and Natalie Tabor at No. 2 (6-2, 6-1 over Emily Henson). Notching doubles victories were Ellie Gallagher and Regan O’Fallon at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2 over Emma Dunker and Mary Thomas), Bergen Johnson and Marta Johnson at No. 2 (6-3, 7-5 over Alli Miller and Ava Bieneman), and Emily Walker and Aubry Theissen at No. 3 (6-4, 6-4 over Ali Craig and Kaitlyn Webster).

Norsemen, Baker claim LTC titles

The Newark-Serena Norsemen shot a 355 team score to claim the Little Ten Conference Tournament title at Indian Oaks Country Club in Shabbona. It’s the third consecutive LTC Tourney crown for the co-op.

Indian Creek was runner-up in the team standings with a 376, followed by Hinckley-Big Rock (380), Earlville (388) and Somonauk (391).

Newark-Serena’s Connor Baker was the individual medalist, carding an 81 and beating Indian Creek’s RJ McCoy in a sudden-death playoff with a birdie on the par-5 first hole.

Norsemen Wyatt Snyder (90) and Tanner Kunkel (91) placed third and fourth, respectively. Rounding out Newark-Serena’s scorers was Corey Jacobson (93).

Earlville’s Jake Pickert shot a 92 and finished fifth individually.

Sycamore 157, Ottawa 170

At the Sycamore Golf Club, the Pirates were beaten by the Spartans in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference dual meet.

T.J. McDonnell shot a 40 and Drake Stoudt a 41 for Ottawa. Its other two scorers were Caden Ericzon (44) and Joe Connell (45).

Volleyball

Earlville def. Midland 25-14, 25-22

The Raiders beat the Timberwovles in straight games in a nonconference match.

Alex Koontz pounded out 10 kills and came up with 12 digs to lead Earlville (11-4). Kylie Koontz added six kills and served up four aces. Kelsey Chapman fingerpushed 21 assists.

Newark def. Plano 25-16, 25-18

At Plano, the Lady Norsemen beat the Lady Reapers in straight games in a nonconference match.

Madi Malone pounded out 10 kills and served up a pair of aces to lead Newark (19-1). Evie Martin added seven kills. Olivia Nelson fingerpushed 21 assists. Meggie Scott led the defense by coming up with 11 digs.

Rochelle def. Leland 25-9, 25-14

At Rochelle, the Lady Panthers were beaten in straight games by the Lady Hubs in a nonconference match.

For Leland, Julia Winckler had three aces and four assists, and Julia Niles four assists and three digs.

Aurora Christian def. Somonauk 25-7, 25-3

At Somonauk, the Lady Bobcats were beaten in straight games by the Eagles in a nonconference match.

For Somonauk (2-12), Kenna Nelson had two assists, and Grace Gozder and McKenna Dayhuff six digs apiece.

Eureka def. Fieldcrest 25-20, 25-20

At Minonk, the Knights were defeated in two sets by the Hornets in a Heart of Illinois Conference match.

For Fieldcrest (13-6 overall, 4-3 HOIC), Emma Petersen had nine kills, Lexi Jochums 11 assists, and Alyx Carls and Madi Hock six digs apiece.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw def. Flanagan-Cornell 25-19, 25-23

At Flanagan, the Lady Falcons were defeated in two sets by the Lady Chiefs in an HOIC match.

For Flanagan-Cornell (13-9-1, 3-4), Regan Reed had five kills and seven digs, McKenna Roth five kills, Kayla VanWeelden three kills and two blocks, and Madelyn Forney six assists.

JUCO men’s soccer

Rock Valley 2, IVCC 1

At La Salle, the Eagles (0-12-1) were edged by Rock Valley College.

Ruti Arteaga scored the goal for IVCC. It was assisted by Cory Beardsley. Hunter Bannon had eight saves for the Eagles.

JUCO women’s tennis

Waubonsee CC 9, IVCC 0

At Washington Middle School in Aurora, the Lady Eagles (2-3) were blanked by Waubonsee Community College in a dual meet.

JV boys golf

Ottawa 184, Sycamore 204

At the Sycamore Golf Club, Michael Bruner carded a personal-best 41 to lead the Corsairs to the NIB 12 dual-meet win over Sycamore.

Noah Stoudt added a 45 and Megan Bessett a personal-best 47 for Ottawa.

Frosh/soph boys soccer

Streator 2, Ottawa 0

Owen Mascal (assisted by Jack Starkey) and Starkey (Connor Novotney) netted the goals for Streator (10-4-1) during its win over Ottawa. Max Baker made nine saves.

Geneseo 3, Ottawa 2

At Geneseo, Rebekah Felty at No. 1 (2-6, 6-3, 10-8) and Kyleigh Olszewski at No. 2 (6-4, 6-4) posted singles wins for the Lady Corsairs during their NIB 12 West dual-meet loss to Geneseo.
