In a cross-class clash of top teams, Wylie tennis defeated Fredericksburg 14-5 on Thursday night in Mason.
The contest put the Class 5A No. 2 Bulldogs (20-0) against the top-ranked team in Class 4A. It was also a rematch of last year’s Class 4A state championship, won by Wylie 10-0.
The Wylie boys continue to be a strength, winning eight of their nine matches, including a sweep of the doubles, and picked up the win in mixed doubles. Lane Adkins, Cole Edwards, Carson Cole and Anthony Zhang each went 2-0 while Hailey Parker and Mandy Roberson went 2-0 on the girls side.
The Bulldogs will have one final warmup before opening their first-ever Class 5A postseason. Wylie will face Odessa Permian on Thursday in either Snyder or Big Spring.
