The first weekend of the 2018-19 NHL season is upon us and there will be 11 games of action on Saturday evening in play for major NHL DFS Tournaments. FanDuel is offering its Saturday NHL Breakaway with a $40,000 prize pool, while DraftKings has a $50,000 prize pool for its Saturday Shootout. With stars like Sidney Crosby ($8,800 on FanDuel and $8,100 on DraftKings) and Andrei Vasilevskiy ($9,200 on FanDuel and $8,300 on DraftKings) in play, finding value with your NHL DFS lineups on Saturday will be key. That’s why you need to see DFS expert Mike McClure’s NHL DFS picks.
McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account. This allows him to find the best NHL DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NHL DFS player.
For Saturday, one player that McClure loves is Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews at $7,900 on FanDuel and $7,600 on DraftKings.
Matthews is coming off an extremely impressive opener on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens where he netted two goals in 17 minutes of action. That was good for 34.6 points on FanDuel and netted a 4.4x return on investment at a price of $7,800.
And Matthews has been particularly tough on his Saturday opponent, the Ottawa Senators, throughout his short NHL career. In eight games against the Canadian rivals, Matthews has seven goals and five assists, with those 12 points being the most he’s scored against any NHL opponent thus far.
McClure is stacking Matthews with Mitchell Marner, who will play on Toronto’s top power-play unit together.
Priced at $6,500 on both FanDuel and DraftKings, Marner didn’t record a point in the Maple Leafs opener on Wednesday. However, he’s scored 130 points in his first two NHL seasons and scored more than a third of his 22 goals (eight) last season on the power play.
Marner has also had success in his career against the Senators, with eight points in seven career games. He’s also most comfortable at home, with his shooting percentage ticking up to 12.6 on home ice vs. 9.9 on the road.
McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to go off for big numbers because of a dream matchup, and he comes at a price that will leave plenty of salary cap flexibility. Picks like these could be the difference between winning your cash games and tournaments or going home with nothing.
