The 2018 MHSAA boys tennis state championships were held this past weekend from around the state and Oakland County had some champions crowned. Here’s a roundup of what took place.
Bloomfield Hills wins D1 title
The Bloomfield Hills tennis team won its third Division 1 title in four years and second straight. The Black Hawks dominated the field, scoring 37 points while Ann Arbor Huron and Birmingham Brother Rice each finished second with 22. Troy placed fifth with 17 while Clarkston, Novi and Detroit Catholic Central landed in the top 10.
Andrew Zhang brought home the state championship at No. 1 singles to lead the Black Hawks, while Sebastian Burman won No. 3 singles. Noah Roslin and Adrian Wilen were state champs at No. 1 doubles while Ryan Frank and Andrew Chen won No. 2 doubles and Michael Lee and James Piel won No. 4 doubles.
JJ Etterbeek won No. 2 singles for Birmingham Brother Rice.
Seaholm, Groves tie for second in D2
The Birmingham Groves and Birmingham Seaholm tennis teams tied for second in the Division 2 state finals this weekend, each scoring 23 points. Okemos took home the championship with 37 points.
Seaholm won a pair of doubles flights as Max Levitsky and Cameron Lee won No. 3 doubles while Fred Kassab and Nolan Werner were champions in No. 4 doubles.
Cranbrook wins fourth straight title
The Cranbrook-Kingswood tennis team earned its fourth consecutive Division 3 state title this weekend, scoring 39 points to best Detroit Country Day, which had 28.
Lucas Bosch was the singles champion for Cranbrook, winning No. 1 singles. Justin Luo won No. 2 singles for the Cranes while Nolan Sherwood won No. 3 singles and Joe Croskey won No. 4 singles. In doubles, Patrick Tiwari and Sohum Acharya won the No. 2 flight for Cranbrook while Hayes Bradley and David Hermelin won No. 3. Geoffrey Qin and Isaiah Croskey took home the title in No. 4 doubles.
Country Day finished second in four of the eight flights.
