PSV 2 – Tottenham 2
Have Tottenham already ruined their chances of progressing in the Champions League?
Spurs blew it in Holland on Wednesday night away at PSV.
Tottenham were leading 2-1 in the final stages of the match, before momentum swung in PSV’s favour when Hugo Lloris was sent off.
Luuk de Jong punished Tottenham’s 10-men with an equaliser in the 87th minute.
Hirving Lozano had put PSV into the lead on the half hour.
Goals from Lucas Moura and Harry Kane either side of the interval had put Tottenham in the box seat.
Spurs & Europa League
Spurs have a mountain to climb to progress into the knockout phase of the Champions League.
Tottenham are third in Group B with one point after three matches. PSV, also with one point, are bottom by virtue of goal difference.
Barcelona lead the way with a perfect nine points on the board, while Inter Milan are second with six points.
Of course, whichever team finishes third in the group will drop into the Europa League.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live radio after the PSV game, journalist Henry Winter has questioned whether Spurs should actively try to snatch that Europa League spot:
It’ll be interesting to see whether Tottenham actually want to finish third, whether they want to go into the Europa League. Or whether they’ll look at the state of the Premier League table and think this is an absolutely dogfight to get back into the Champions League positions and focus on that.
I think that’ll be a very interesting tactical decision they have to make.
