Jan Oblak pushing for January Atletico Madrid exit

As per a report from Spanish outlet Marca, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is eyeing a move away from the club.

Oblak, a 25-year-old Slovenian international, has been on the books of Atletico since 2014, when he joined the club from Portuguese outfit Benfica.

He has since gone on to establish himself as one of world football’s most highly-regarded shot-stoppers, with many of the opinion that Oblak is in fact the finest goalkeeper on the planet.

As such, the 18-time capped international has inevitably been linked with a possible Atletico departure for some time now.

The likes of PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with big-money bids for Oblak over the last 12 months, but to this point, Los Colchoneros’ no.1 has remained loyal to his current employers.

This could soon be set to change, though, according to Marca.

The Madrid-based publication claim that Oblak is eyeing a January departure from the Wanda Metropolitano.

This is due to apparent frustration on the part of the Olimpija Ljubljana youth product, relating to the lack of a new contract offer from the club.

Oblak’s current deal is actually not set to expire until 2021.

However, this contract was signed back in 2016, with Marca claiming that Oblak has become increasingly-frustrated by the fact that the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Saul Niguez and Koke have all signed lucrative deals since.

The Spanish outlet even go as far as to suggest that the Slovenian has already informed Atletico’s President, CEO and players of his intention to depart the club.

‘For the time being…’

Oblak was awarded the Zamora Trophy for La Liga’s best goalkeeper yesterday, with the shot-stopper having cast further doubt over his future with Atletico when claiming that ‘for the time being, I am here’.
