Arsenal & Chelsea keen on Brazilian 19-year-old right back Emerson

Arsenal & Chelsea scouting Emerson in Brazil

Premier League clubs so often buy Brazilian players after they have already come to Europe.

It makes a lot more sense to buy from Brazilian clubs directly in terms of transfer fee, however you are risking the acclimatisation period in Europe.

On Thursday, Brazilian portal O Tempo report that both Arsenal and Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Atletico Mineiro’s 19-year-old right back Emerson.

Atletico Mineiro are in financial difficulties

To give him his full name, Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior is considered a hot prospect in Brazil right now.

Emerson has impressed for Atletico Mineiro and seems likely to leave the club who are experiencing financial difficulties.

O Tempo reveal that both Arsenal and Chelsea have been extensively scouting Emerson in recent weeks.

How much would Arsenal or Chelsea have to pay for Emerson?

Emerson, who is owned by Atletico Mineiro to the tune of 63%, recently also changed agents which has made many suspect a move to Europe could now be close.

Speculation in Brazil is that a move for Emerson would cost around 40 million reals.

This translates to just over 8 million pounds. Not such an enormous fee for a right back who has already proven himself in the top flight of Brazilian football.

And, at 19 has a long career ahead of himself.

Scouts from Premier League clubs were in attendance to watch Emerson play on Sunday for Atletico Mineiro in a 1-1 draw with Palmeiras.

Do Arsenal & Chelsea need a new right back?

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are pretty well stocked at right back.

Arsenal have Hector Bellerin, one of their best performers in recent weeks whilst they signed Stephen Lichtsteiner on a free transfer this past summer as well.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been playing right back under Maurizio Sarri this season at Chelsea. Davide Zappacosta is another option for the Blues in that position.

Chelsea have a long history of signing young Brazilian players and the likes of Willian and David Luiz bring a strong Brazilian presence to their current squad.
