Lleyton Hewitt’s son Cruz just like his famous dad

LONG blonde curls, a fearsome forehand and oodles of tennis ability – it was deja-vu for tennis fans, when Lleyton Hewitt and his son Cruz took to the court.

Hewitt Senior, who unseated Roger Federer to win the Brisbane International in 2014, was back in town this week to challenge for a 2019 doubles title with up-and-coming Aussie Alex de Minaur.

But a New Year’s Eve knockout, at the hands of Ben McLachlan and Jan-Lennard Struff, left plenty of time for him to take on nine-year-old Cruz in a casual match.

Onlookers were impressed with the eldest Hewitt child’s temperament on the court as well as his remarkable resemblance to his father, who became world No.1 at just 20.

If it wasn’t for the lack of a backwards-facing cap, the gathered crowd may well have thought they had been caught in a time machine.

Lleyton’s blond hair has darkened over time and the former star now wears it cropped tightly to his head, but in Cruz, viewers were treated to the same golden curls that thrilled a generation of tennis fans.
