Pakistan would’ve hoped for a larger lead given how Masood and Shafiq were at it in the middle session, but a clump of wickets pegged them back. Babar Azam kept them in the game, and had it not been for his fifty, they were faced with the probability of even an innings loss after all that effort.

Wow! What drama! South Africans think they have Pakistan bowled out. De Kock even was off the ground and into the dressing room when he called back! No-Ball says the umpire and play has to go on. Still 9 down, are Pakistan.

And just as I say that, they lose their eighth! Yasir departs. South Africa are inching closer to win.

FIFTY FOR AZAM! What a fifty it has been for Babar Azam, which has come off just 55 balls. Pakistan are just seven behind, but they are also 7 down after having lost Amir and Yasir to Steyn, who has four in the innings.

Olivier pitched it up and has Sarfraz trapped right in front. The on-field umpire thinks it’s gone, but the batsman reviews. It’s only a question of height. Will he survive? But the soft signal is out…. Just clipping the top of off. OUT! Sarfraz goes for 6.

HUGE WICKET FOR SA! Shafiq departs for 88! Philander was bowling in that same area for a while, and finally it pays off as Shafiq edges to the ‘keeper. It was the wider one that did him in. A brilliant knock comes to an end. Pakistan are 194/4.

We’re back after Tea..

TEA! You would’ve thought South Africa will go into the tea break on a high after having sent back Masood just on the brink of the break. However, Babar Azam came in to strike a couple of boundaries as runs continued to flow for Pakistan, who have now brought down the deficit to just 77. They go into tea at 177/3 with Shafiq unbeaten on 73. Can South Africa bounce back in the final session to spur a collapse or will Pakistan continue with the stream of runs? They have, after all, scored at over five this session. Join us after the break.

BIG WICKET FOR SA! Gets a bit of movement and Masood edged to de Kock. Steyn gets the wicket! They’ve broken the key stand that fetched them 132! They’ll go into Tea relieved with the batsman falling just on the brink of it.

Shan Masood gets his fifty now. Promoted up the order, he has been solid for Pakistan today, giving Shafiq the leeway to attack.

100-run stand up for the pair in the middle. It comes just off 134 balls – attack and defence in proportion!

SHAN MASOOD SURVIVES! South Africa have their man, or NOT! Philander changed the angle by going round the wicket and trapped Shan in front. A loud shout and the umpire obliged. The batsman reviewed, however, to find replays suggesting it would go down. THE DRS finally going their way! The pair have also added over 50 now.

REVIEW LOST: Loud shout for leg before against Masood. The bowler pushes du Plessis to go for the review. Impact outside, and the on-field decision remains.

Asad and Shan are rebuilding well here for Pakistan. The pair are letting go off the deliveries that may pose a threat defending well and are getting the odd boundaries. Their stand is nearing fifty and in very good time.

We’re back after Lunch for the second session…

LUNCH: Pakistan lost two early wickets in the first session, going into the break on 37/2, still behind by 217 runs. South Africa are in firm control of proceedings after stretching their lead to over 250 before losing their four wickets early on in the session. Their pacers then came back strongly on a wicket that was misbehaving in patches to pick up those early wickets. Can Pakistan stage a fightback and resist the SA pacers? Azhar Ali departs, trapped leg before to Rabada! Big wicket for South Africa!

GOOONNNE! Imam ul Haq edges to slip where Dean Elgar takes a sharp catch. Early wicket for South Africa. Steyn strikes early. It was wide and full and the batsman didn’t need to play at it. But he did. Some venomous bowling from Styen – hits Azhar Ali flush on the chest.

SOUTH AFRICA are bowled out for 431, with a lead of 254. Amir finishes with a four-wicket haul, picking up three of the four wickets to fall this morning,, as did Shaheen Afridi.

And another! The middle stump is knocked out this time! Rabada departs. Amir has this fourth. The lead is up to 231 at the moment. How many more can South Africa get?

THE STUMP IS BROKEN INTO TWO! A sight to behold! Philander gets an inside edge back onto the stumps and the legstump is broken into two! Philander departs.

South Africa go past 400 with that boundary from Rabada.

And OUT! Amir strikes early to get the dangerman de Kock! He could’ve been the difference between a massive lead ad what South Africa will get. He edged to second slip, who took a good, low catch. The ball stuck in his forearms, rather than his palms, but held on anyway.

We’re back in Newlands for Day 3. Mohammad Abbas to start things off. Vernon Philander and Quinton de Kock in the middle.

Captain’s knock from Faf du Plessis, who scored a brilliant century, with supporting roles from Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock meant South Africa took the game away from Pakistan on the second day, ending 205 runs in the lead.
