Everton’s Idrissa Gueye inching towards surprise PSG move

As per a report from French outlet TeleFoot, Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is close to agreeing personal terms with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Everton’s midfield enforcer

Gueye, a 29-year-old defensive midfielder, has been plying his trade at Goodison Park since 2016.

The Toffees snapped up the Senegalese international for a fee of just £7.1 million, after Aston Villa’s relegation to the Championship triggered a release clause in Gueye’s contract.

And the former Lille man has since gone on to establish himself as a near ever-present for Everton.

Gueye started in 32 of the Toffees’ 38 Premier League outings both last season and during the 2016/17 campaign.

And he has since gone on to play a pivotal role at the base of Marco Silva’s midfield once more to this point in the current season, with Gueye’s ability to snuff out opposing attacks with either a crunching tackle or well-timed interception making him one of the Merseysiders’ most-important players.

PSG bound?

However, despite his immeasurable value to Everton, Gueye could well be set for a departure from Goodison Park this month.

That’s according to French outlet TeleFoot, who report this evening that the African is inching towards a move to Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Gueye is said to be increasingly-close to agreeing on the terms of a contract with the capital giants.

However, TeleFoot add that PSG and Everton remain some distance apart in their respective valuations of the midfield destroyer.

The Premier League outfit, for their part, have slapped a hefty 45 million Euro price-tag on Gueye’s shoulders.

Gueye’s potential replacements

In the case that the two clubs do manage to find an agreement on a fee, though, Everton appear to have a pair of targets in mind to replace the Senegalese star.

The first is Lille standout Thiago Mendes, who, coincidentally, is viewed as an alternative to Gueye by PSG. And the Toffees’ other rumoured midfield target is Boca Juniors enforcer Wilmar Barrios.
