Chelsea transfer news: Bournemouth chief hints Callum Wilson could leave | Football | Sport

The England striker, 26, has linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea have already declared their interest in him.

Bournemouth reacted by putting a £75million price tag on his head ad Fletcher revealed the Cherries will do all they can to keep their top scorer.

“Callum has done fantastically well to come back from injuries,” he said.

”He scores goals in the Premier League, made his England debut (in November last year), fantastic.

“Credit to all of his hard work he’s done. I think like I said before the team, the club, are trying to improve and you can’t improve if you sell your best players.

“So obviously you want your best players to stay with you. I think it’s fantastic that the players we’ve got are attracting interest from other clubs — which is great.”

Former Bournemouth midfielder Fletcher also conceded they might struggle to keep hold of him if the likes of Chelsea firm up their interest with an official offer.

“For us he’s an integral part to the squad and to the team and what Ed (manager Eddie Howe) is trying to do,” he added.

“You can never say never in football, but for me he’s a massive part of that Bournemouth team.”

Boss Howe appears to agree with Fletcher and moved to dampen the speculation in the build-up to Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton.

He fuelled the speculation surrounding the future of Wilson – who has nine goals in the Premier League this season – but claimed he was only absent because of a minor injury.

Speaking before the Everton clash, he said: “I’ve been told about the speculation, it’s not something I seek to read.

“It’s a waste of time for me to do so. It’s business as normal, Callum has been bright and bubbly this week so no problems there.

“In my opinion, and it’s just my opinion, I wouldn’t sell at any price but I’m the manager of the team trying to create the best team that I can.

“We desperately want to take the team forward and to do that we have got to keep our best players.

“He (Wilson) is a very important member of the team. He has unique attributes that really complement what we do here.

“He’s been a really good goal scorer for us this season, that’s the hardest things to do in the sport so he value him really highly.”
