IF Carl Frampton wants another world title fight, he might just be able to get it. Frampton, already a two-weight world champion, won a WBO Interim featherweight title against Luke Jackson last August but lost in December to reigning IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington.
Bob Arum promotes the WBO world champion Oscar Valdez and was keen to stage a Valdez-Warrington unification. However it looks like Warrington might have to meet mandatory challenger Kid Galahad.
Valdez boxes on February 2, defending his world title against Carmine Tommasone. “And then I’d like him to fight, since Warrington may be taken, I’d like him to fight Frampton maybe,” Arum told Boxing News.
The Mexican however has been out of action since he fractured his jaw against Scott Quigg last year. Valdez will need to rediscover his form. “It’s a setback, he fought in March and he’s not going to fight now until February 2 so it’s almost a year. For an athlete, a boxer to lose a year it’s a long time,” Arum said.
“But we did a presser in Dallas where he’s going to fight,” the promoter added. “He looked great. Canelo’s trainer [Eddy Reynoso] is training him now and thought he was in great shape. Hopefully he comes through in that fight.”
