Authorities tell 2 NEWS that a fight broke out when detectives arrived at a home on Hancock Street while following up on tips about the robbery.

A dog at the home became aggressive, trying to defend its owner, and the animal was shot and killed by police.

Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck says his detectives were working on the case throughout the night.

The Cricket Wireless store, located on Siebenthaler Avenue, was empty on Thursday and the doors remain locked.

The two thieves stole most of the store’s inventory after tying up the clerk.

When they were done, deputies say the suspects left through the back door of the store where a getaway driver was waiting to help the suspects flee.

Sheriff Streck says these cell phone store robberies are getting out of hand.

“It’s ridiculous that you can’t go to your cell phone store and grab a phone without worrying about getting robbed. That’s why the detectives and our command staff and everyone out there is working so hard on this,” he said.

Deputies say one of the suspects wielded a knife and the other showed the victim a gun.

The Sheriff’s Office believes the three robbers have carried out this crime before, underlining the need to reach out to other law enforcement agencies for help.

“In any drug store robbery, cell phone robbery, bank robberies…they are always going to go to other jurisdictions. It does seem like these cell phone robberies have brought up the specific need to work with other agencies,” he says.

The victim was able to escape to the bank next door for help, where an employee called 911.
