It’s turned toxic at the Emirates…
Arsenal fans are starting to question whether Unai Emery is the right man to take them forward after the embarrassing defeat to BATE Borisov.
Emery was chosen as the man to take over from Arsene Wenger last summer, one of the most iconic managers in recent history.
It was never going to be an easy job, but having won trophies at Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as playing the desired style of football, Emery was chosen as Wenger’s successor.
While it looked a shrewd appointment early on in the season, it’s all turning a bit sour now.
Despite going 22 games unbeaten, performances in recent months have left a lot to be desired.
After their unbeaten run ended, Arsenal were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Spurs, beaten 5-1 by Liverpool and could only manage a 1-1 draw against Brighton.
Their next poor performance came when they were beaten by West Ham midway through January.
While there have been a few wins since then, performances have remained lacklustre.
Though, Arsenal reached a new low on Thursday night.
Gunners embarrassingly beaten in Belarus
Arsenal produced their worst performance of the season by far against BATE Borisov in the Europa League.
Unai Emery’s side hardly threatened before BATE scored the eventual winner through Stanislav Dragun before half time.
To add to their woes, Alexandre Lacazette was sent off for an elbow late on in the game, meaning he will miss the second leg and more if they progress.
Several Arsenal fans rated the performance up there with the worst they have ever seen and are now starting to question whether Emery is actually the right man for Arsenal.
Many took to social media after the game to express their displeasure at the result but also Emery’s management.
We’ve compiled a few of them below.

Social media reaction
Time and money won’t make Emery a better manager I’m afraid.

Loath to dig out the manager in probation, but just hard to see what he’s trying to instill with the team.

Unai Emery just wasn’t the right man. Simple as that.

I think we have to give him this season at the very least. Hopefully there will be some leading indicators by then to know if he’s going to be good for the long-term or not. Then we act accordingly.

Really want to back Emery as it’s still early but I’m worried about us sticking with the wrong choice. When we appointed Emery, I was (naively) hoping we had a coach who instilled hard work and fight on top of creative, attacking football. His comments about us pressing and being

Emery was such a poor choice for this job. Completely out of his depth. He needs to be sacked regardless of what happens this season. #EmeryOut

The football we play is shit, our defending is the worst I’ve seen last 20 odd years, our tactics are similar to a side fighting for relegation. I’m all for giving Emery time, but I’m shocked at what I’ve seen so far. If it doesn’t improve drastically, he won’t last long imo.

I know it’s early days but I don’t really see what style of play Emery is bringing to the table

People STILL defending Emery! ‘Needs more money blah blah blah’
Our rivals spent fuck all and are challenging for title and CL!
Wake up!! #EmeryOut

Emery doesn’t deserve one more season after this one. Sack him when our season finishes.
