Here’s what fans can get for free

Single-game tickets for the Detroit Tigers’ 2019 season don’t go on sale until Saturday morning, but the Tigers released their promotions and giveaways schedule on Wednesday. In addition to the usual fireworks shows (Friday nights), magnetic schedule giveaway (April 6) and wall calendar giveaway (April 7), the team has several unique giveaways planned for fans. Some of the highlights:

April 20: Stay warm in the April chill — and the likely frigid 2020 free-agent market — with a trapper-style hat, given away to 10,000 fans when the Manny Machado-less White Sox visit.

June 7-8: Taking a road trip (perhaps to see the Tigers) later this season? Hit the Twins game to get a Delta-sponsored carry-on bag. Then come back the next day for a Tigers travel mug.

June 14-16: The annual “Fiesta Tigres” weekend arrives in mid-June when Cleveland visits. The Tigers apparently also anticipate fans needing to drink to deal with the Indians once again running away with the AL Central. Friday’s giveaway is a Pure Michigan Koozie, followed by Saturday’s giveaway: A Fiesta Tigres cooler for the first 10,000 fans 21-and-older, sponsored by Sol beer. (Sunday’s giveaway is a Father’s Day toiletry bag for the first 10,000 men; we suppose Tigers fans will need to clean up after the weekend.)

More: Detroit Tigers’ signing Josh Harrison could pay dividends now, in future

June 28-29: Looks like the Tigers will be honoring the Roar of ’84 when Max Scherzer and the Nationals visit. On Friday night, the first 10,000 fans will get a Lou Whitaker and Lance Parrish mini-bat. (It might come in handy for taking out your frustrations if “Sweet Lou” is left off the Baseball Hall of Fame “Today’s Game” Committee ballot again?) Then, on Saturday, you can get a Sparky Anderson bobblehead.

July 6: Speaking of bobbleheads, the Red Sox’s visit brings a Miguel Cabrera picture-frame bobblehead, with which you can presumably display your favorite photo from the 2013 ALCS in Boston. (Sorry, Torii Hunter.)

Aug. 10: This year’s Negro Leagues Weekend opponent will be Kansas City. The Tigers will wear throwback Detroit Stars uniforms while the Royals likely will pay tribute to the Kansas City Monarchs. The first 10,000 fans can get their own replica Stars jerseys.

Sept. 21: The final scheduled giveaway comes against the White Sox, with Visit Central Florida sponsoring something called a “Print All Over Shirt.” However it ends up looking, it’ll give you something to wear while dreaming of a 2020 trip to Spring Training in Lakeland. (Where you can use your Tigers carry-on bag and travel mug, maybe?)
