Other Sports: Local links: Trick shot artist takes aim at world record

Michael Furrh, a golf and teaching professional, professional trick shot artist and a four-time Guinness world record holder, will attempt to set another record at 10:30 a.m. March 12 at First Tee of Fort Worth on the Rockwood Golf Course driving range.

Furrh, of Arlington, and Mike Rausch, a former club pro from Fort Worth, will attempt to break the record for longest club to hit a golf ball. Their plan is to start with a 48-foot driver and work their way up to a 70-foot club. Furrh held the record by using a 30-foot, 6-inch club. The current record is 37 feet, 1 inch by Anthony Anderson, the star of the TV sitcom Blackish.

“We’ve been preparing for this for three years,” Furrh said.

Nine sections of the shaft representing the nine core values of First Tee will be signed by First Tee members.

To be successful, Furrh and Rausch must hit a shot at least 82 feet, 5 inches. Furrh said Rausch will be at the grip end of the club and he will hold the shaft at the halfway point. To qualify for the record, he is not allowed to go past 50 percent of the length of the shaft from the grip end of the club.
