Burnley manager Sean Dyche says one loss in nine “has a nice ring to it”
Burnley must make sure their 2-0 loss to Newcastle is “just a bump,” says manager Sean Dyche.
Three days after a shock 2-1 win over Tottenham, the Clarets came out flat against Newcastle and the loss leaves them just five points clear of the relegation zone.
Immediately after the game, Dyche said his team were “a long way off” but despite dropping points in a crucial game, Dyche is happy with the the club’s recent form and remains upbeat.
“One loss in nine has a good ring to it, in the sense that it’s a good run before that,” he said. “But we didn’t perform well in the first half, we were a bit better in the second half.
“There is still more to come from us but I think generally, I have been very pleased with the performances. And not just the wins.”

Fabian Schar’s superb strike and Sean Longstaff’s first Premier League goal saw Newcastle beat Burnley 2-0.
“Before [the Newcastle game] I did mention we were getting stronger in the games previous to that but since Christmas we have been very strong and pleasing so we have got to make sure it is just a bump and get on with it.”
Before Tuesday, Burnley’s only loss since Boxing Day was a 5-0 FA Cup hammering at the hands of Manchester City, but Dyche said the poor performance didn’t necessarily surprise him.
“It is tough when a game comes so quick,” he said. “We just had a big, big result against one of the top side’s and that’s a different feeling – for the town, the fans and the players.
“And I just think – not a physical thing but if that game on Tuesday was Saturday, it’s washed out the system and you get on with it. But that’s another challenge.
“You get those big results – we’ve had big moments on many different occasions since I’ve been here and it’s about handling that and getting on and delivering a performance.”

Dyche said the game was a “reminder” for the team not to come away from their performance levels, but he remains confident about their chances for the rest of the season.
“Albeit, upon reflection, very few chances for Newcastle so even on a below-par performance we weren’t giving up a lot.
“They scored a worldie for the first and a breakaway for the second. Overall I think they had one good chance in the second half and that was it. We created four or five.”
“Within all of what I’ve said, I still think we are creating chances, we are pretty much keeping things tight, and that bodes well.”
